I am amazed that Hell Night is rated ‘R’. There is not a breast to be seen and the violence is on par with Tom and Jerry. Hardly frightening and with language no more racy or offensive than your average MTV show, Hell Night harks back to a simpiler point in time. So simple that the film needs no real reason to bring about its scares. With all the exposition delivered in a scant two minute spiel the film does little to expound upon the killer’s backstory or motif. All that one needs to know is that there is a maniac on the lose. The rest is a mere tease in the hopes of a peek at some flesh or a blood splattered scene. By day break, neither arrives. Still, the night is fun, like a romp through a haunted house.
